BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM – A man is under arrest after authorities say he backed into a Bernalillo County Sheriff’s patrol vehicle and tried to run away.
According to KRQE, the incident occurred Friday morning after deputies responded to the scene of a Walgreen’s parking lot on Isleta Boulevard SW on a call of a man who appeared to be asleep in a car.
The deputies encountered 20-year-old Kenneth Hall and observed a rifle on the back floorboard of his vehicle. The sheriff’s office said Hall became argumentative after he was given instructions. When a deputy started walking from one side of the vehicle to the other, Hall allegedly put the vehicle into reverse and almost hit the deputy. Hall backed into a patrol vehicle and then crashed into another parked vehicle as he tried to flee the parking lot, the sheriff’s office said.
After driving through a fence and trying to take off on foot, Hall was eventually apprehended following a foot pursuit. He now faces several charges, including aggravated assault on a peace officer and aggravated fleeing from law enforcement. He was booed in the Metropolitan Detention Center.
