UPDATE: Multi-vehicle wreck on I-40 near Santa Rosa claims 1 life

GUADALUPE COUNTY, NM — Authorities have confirmed at least one fatality following a multi-vehicle accident that occurred Monday, east of Santa Rosa, reports KOAT.

The crash happened on westbound Interstate 40 at mile marker 291, near Cuervo.

An investigation remains underway, but New Mexico State Police indicated that a number of other people were injured. The exact number of those hurt and the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.

All westbound lanes of I-40 were shut down shortly before 11:00 a.m.

New Mexico Department of Transportation officials reported severe winter weather in the area the same day, which also forced a partial closure of I-25 at the Colorado border, but it’s unclear what other factors may have caused the wreck.

Accident closes NM-333 in both directions near NE Tijeras

BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM — Part of New Mexico State Road 333 was shut down Sunday afternoon, January 7, near northeast Tijeras due to a crash, according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.

The closure was reported at mile marker 10, near Salt Missions Trail and the Interstate 40 ramps, shortly after 2:00 p.m.

Though the sheriff’s office observed “poor road conditions” at the time of its report, officials have not confirmed the cause of the accident, the number of vehicles involved, or any injuries.

Authorities respond to wreck on I-40 WB in West Bluff area

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — A collision was reported late Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 40 in Albuquerque’s West Bluff area, according to KKOB Traffic.

The accident impacted the westbound lanes approaching Exit 155 to Coors Boulevard Northwest (New Mexico State Road 45). It was first reported by KKOB at 4:33 p.m.

Few details were made immediately available, but the right westbound lane was blocked following the crash.

Motorists were advised of delays in the area.
