ALBUQUERQUE, NM — One person suffered critical injuries Saturday night when they were ejected from a motorcycle on an Interstate 25 entrance ramp in northeast Albuquerque, reports KOAT.

Albuquerque Police said the accident occurred on the I-25 northbound onramp from Montgomery Boulevard Northeast, in the Montgomery Heights area. The department’s Motor Unit responded to the scene shortly after.

According to officials, the victim was operating a black 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound at a high rate of speed when it nearly struck another vehicle in a nearby lane. The near-crash caused the motorcyclist to lose control and eject from the bike.

Moments later, drivers in two other vehicles collided as they tried to avoid the motorcycle crash.

Authorities said the rider was rushed to an area hospital in “critical and unstable condition.” No other information regarding the patient’s injuries has been disclosed at this time.

No other major injuries were reported following the event.

An investigation remains in progress, but speed and “driver error” are believed to be contributing factors in the crash. Investigators have not yet said whether alcohol played a role.
