Young man dies after car rear-ends CMV on I-25 SB near downtown Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — A 22-year-old man died Thursday evening, June 29, after a crash involving a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) on Interstate 25 near downtown Albuquerque, reports the New Mexico Department of Public Safety.

The fatal wreck took place on the southbound side of I-25 at Exit 224B to Dr Martin Luther King Jr Avenue. New Mexico State Police responded to the scene at about 6:30 p.m.

According to investigators, the young man was driving a 2006 Toyota passenger vehicle southbound on I-25. At one point, for reasons still unclear, the Toyota veered out of its lane and hit the back of a 1993 commercial motor vehicle that was parked on the shoulder.

First responders rushed the driver of the Toyota to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. Officials have since identified the victim as Atticus Pearl, a local resident.

No injuries to the driver of the CMV have been reported.

New Mexico State Police officials continue to investigate the accident.
