UPDATE: Street racing crash in NW Albuquerque claims lives of pedestrian, motorcyclist

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Two people, including a pedestrian, lost their lives last Tuesday night after a motorcycle race led to a crash in northwest Albuquerque, reports KRQE.

Albuquerque Police said the wreck occurred in the area of Coors Boulevard Northwest and Irving Boulevard Northwest, near the Paradise Hills Shopping Center. Officers and first responders were dispatched to the scene at about 10:00 p.m.

An early investigation shows two motorcycles were racing northbound on Coors Boulevard, and at one point, one bike struck a pedestrian who was using a designated crosswalk. Following the impact with the victim, the motorcycle proceeded to travel another 450 feet before hitting a curb, and then a fuel price sign and a tree at a gas station.

First responders pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene.

The driver of the striking motorcycle was rushed to an area hospital, where they also succumbed to their injuries.

Authorities said they continue to search for the second motorcyclist, who fled the scene.

APD responds to wreck on I-25 SB at Ellison St. NE

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — A collision was reported Tuesday morning, February 20, on Interstate 25 in northeast Albuquerque, according to APD Traffic.

Albuquerque Police responded to the scene on the southbound lanes approaching Ellison Street Northeast (Exit 231) at about 9:04 a.m.

As of this writing, the department has not disclosed any information regarding the circumstances of the wreck or the parties involved.


No injuries or hospital transports from the scene were immediately reported.

 

Accident reported on Dr Martin Luther King Jr Ave NE in downtown Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Albuquerque Police responded to a collision Tuesday morning in downtown Albuquerque’s Huning Highlands neighborhood, according to APD Traffic.

The accident unfolded on a stretch of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Avenue Northeast at Locus Street Northeast, near Lovelace Medical Center. Officers arrived on the scene at about 9:22 a.m.

Following the accident, the APD has not said what led up to the crash or how many parties were involved.


It’s unclear whether anyone suffered injuries and/or required medical attention.
