RRPD investigates collision on NM-528 in Rio Rancho

SANDOVAL COUNTY, NM — Part of northbound New Mexico State Road 528 was closed Monday morning in Rio Rancho following a vehicle crash, according to the Rio Rancho Police Department.

The accident impacted the northbound lanes of NM-528 at Southern Boulevard Southeast and Meadowlark Lane Southeast, in the city’s Urban Center area. Rio Rancho Police arrived at the scene some time before 6:28 a.m.

Very little information has been shared at this time, but the closure appeared to remain in place until at least 11:30 a.m., more than five hours after the initial report, suggesting a major wreck.

Motorists were asked to seek alternate routes around the scene as RRPD officers investigated.


The department has not disclosed the cause of the crash, details on the involved parties, or indicated potential injuries.
