Pedestrian hit, killed by train on tracks along 2nd St SW near South Valley

BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM — Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a fatal pedestrian crash involving a train Wednesday night near South Valley, reports KRQE.

The incident occurred on the rail tracks in the area of Prosperity Avenue Southeast (Bowers Road Southwest) and 2nd Street Southwest (New Mexico State Road 333). It was first reported by the BCSO at 9:06 p.m.

Officials have not shared what circumstances led up to the event, but the pedestrian, whose identity remains undisclosed, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

All lanes of Prosperity Avenue Southwest and 2nd Street Southwest were blocked off during the emergency response and initial investigation. Motorists were instructed to seek alternate routes around the area.
