NMSP investigates fatal crash involving multiple semitrailers on I-40 near Gallup

MCKINLEY COUNTY, NM — A crash involving several semitrailers late Wednesday near Gallup claimed at least one life, according to KOAT.

The accident happened on the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 at mile marker 20, west of U.S. Highway 491/New Mexico State Road 602.

Details are limited, but New Mexico State Police said three semitrailers and a passenger vehicle were involved in a crash that left at least one person fatally injured.

A section of westbound I-40 was shut down during the emergency response and initial investigation. All westbound traffic back to mile marker 16 was forced to re-route away from the scene.

At 10:10 p.m., KOAT reported that all travel lanes had been reopened.
