ALBUQUERQUE, NM — A motorcyclist suffered a serious brain injury Tuesday night during a collision with another driver in southeast Albuquerque’s South San Pedro area, reports KRQE.

Albuquerque Police said the accident occurred on the northbound stretch of San Pedro Drive at Zuni Road.

Preliminary details show the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on San Pedro Drive when they stopped before a red light. A driver in a Gold Nissan Armada was stopped and waiting at a stop sign on westbound Bell Avenue before San Pedro Drive.

Authorities said the driver of the Nissan appeared to believe the lanes were clear as they proceeded westbound into San Pedro. Moments later, the southbound motorcyclist collided with the Armada’s passenger side, causing the rider to eject and strike a Mercury sedan.

First responders rushed the rider to an area hospital for severe head trauma.
