ALBUQUERQUE, NM — A multi-vehicle accident Monday afternoon in Albuquerque’s South Los Altos neighborhood has claimed the life of one person and left another hospitalized, reports KRQE.

The wreck took place on Central Avenue at Eubank Boulevard, prompting a response from Albuquerque Police shortly after 4:15 p.m.

Preliminary details show a Toyota FJ was traveling westbound on Central Avenue when, for reasons still being investigated, it struck a center median curb. The impact caused the FJ to enter the eastbound lanes, where it hit a Nissan and a Jeep in the eastbound Central Avenue turn bay.

Authorities said the FJ rolled in the crash, causing its driver to eject and strike one of the other vehicles and then land on the ground.

First responders worked to rush the FJ driver to a local hospital, but the patient succumbed to their injuries before arrival.

A passenger in the Jeep was transported to the hospital in stable condition. No other major injuries were reported.

An investigation remains in progress, but speed is not believed to be a factor. Impairment on the part of the surviving drivers has been ruled out, but it is unclear at this time whether drugs or alcohol may have impacted the FJ driver at the time of the crash.
