Crews respond to vehicle fire on I-10 WB near NM-AZ border

HIDALGO COUNTY, NM — A vehicle caught fire last Thursday afternoon, closing part of westbound Interstate 10 in southwest Lordsburg, according to the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT).

The accident occurred on the westbound lanes of I-10 at milepost 1, just east of the New Mexico-Arizona state border. It was first reported by NMDOT at 2:53 p.m.

Officials did not say whether a crash or mechanical problems caused the fire, but all westbound lanes in the area were blocked in the immediate aftermath.

Passing motorists were instructed to slow down and use extra caution as emergency crews worked to clear the scene. Delays were expected.

As of this writing, local agencies have not confirmed any serious injuries in connection to the incident.
