Adult, 2 children hurt in school bus vs vehicle crash near Roswell

CHAVES COUNTY, NM — An adult and two children were injured Tuesday morning when a Roswell school bus turned in front of an oncoming pickup truck, reports KOAT.

New Mexico State Police said the accident occurred on U.S. Highway 285 at Darby Road, in an area southeast of Roswell.

According to investigators, a Roswell Independent School District bus stopped at the intersection and then turned onto the highway, crossing into the path of a pickup truck that  slammed into its side.

One of the 34 students aboard the bus was taken to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.

First responders also transported the driver of the pickup and their 4-year-old passenger to the hospital. Officials have not disclosed any information on the patients’ conditions, but all three victims are expected to make a recovery.

NMSP said the driver of the school bus received a citation following the incident.
