Accident closes multiple lanes on I-40 EB at Big I, causing traffic backup

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Authorities were dispatched to a crash Wednesday morning that led to major delays on Interstate 40, north of downtown Albuquerque, reports KOB4.

The collision happened on the eastbound lanes of I-40 at Exit 159 to the I-25 interchange (Big I), in the Santa Barbara-Martineztown area. It was first reported by KOB4 at 8:07 a.m.

Crash details have not been released to the public, but three right lanes and the right shoulder were blocked during the emergency response. The scene created a traffic backup that stretched all the way down to Rio Grande Boulevard and toward Coors Boulevard.

Shortly after 11:00 a.m., all travel lanes had been restored to traffic.
