2 killed in wrong-way collision involving DWI suspect on US-84/285 near Santa Fe

SANTA FE COUNTY, NM — Two people lost their lives Thursday night following a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 84/285 north of Santa Fe, according to KOB4.

The fatal accident was reported near mile marker 172, north of New Mexico State Road 591, at about 11:00 p.m.

Santa Fe County deputies had received a call at around 11:00 p.m. about a driver traveling in the wrong direction when they learned the driver’s wrong-way Jeep collided with a pickup truck at the North Tesuque Interchange.

The driver of the pickup truck, as well as a rear passenger in the same vehicle, were both pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed officials.

Two other passengers in the pickup were transported to Christus St. Vincent Hospital with unspecified injuries.

The driver of the Jeep, Scott Sullivan, a 51-year-old man Topanga, California resident, was suspected of impaired driving. Sullivan, who was also transported to a local hospital for unspecified injuries, faces “two counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of great bodily harm by vehicle, DWI and reckless driving.”

 

Accident reduces I-10 EB to single lane near Animas

BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM — Emergency crews were dispatched to a crash Friday afternoon that closed multiple lanes on Interstate 10 near Animas, according to NM Roads.

The collision unfolded on the eastbound interstate at mile marker 11, near New Mexico State Road 338. It was first recorded in the NM Roads map index shortly after 3:00 p.m.

Very few details have been disclosed as of this writing, but all of eastbound I-10 in the area was reduced to a single lane. Motorists were urged to slow down and use extra caution as crews processed the scene.

It’s unclear at this time how many vehicles were involved or whether anyone suffered serious injuries.

 

Vehicle slams into building on Fourth St near NW Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Authorities responded to a collision Friday at a building off 4th Street near northwest Albuquerque, according to KOAT.

The incident was reported in the 7300 block of Fourth Street Northwest, in the Los Ranchos de Albuquerque area.

Preliminary details indicate a driver was operating a newly-purchased vehicle and was not yet familiar with it. At one point, the vehicle appeared to have been in manual mode when it collided with a nearby building.

The driver was not reported hurt, and the building was unoccupied at the time of the wreck, but all northbound lanes in the area were shut down as officials tended to the scene.

No citations or arrests were reported following the event.
