1 killed in double-semi crash on I-40 near Route 66 Casino Hotel

BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM — One person died late Thursday after a crash involving two semi-trailers on Interstate 40 in far west Albuquerque, reports KOAT.

The fatal accident occurred on the eastbound lanes of I-40 at mile marker 135, about five miles west of Route 66 Casino Hotel. It was first reported at around 11:00 p.m.

No information regarding the cause of the wreck has been shared, but the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrived on the scene to find one person deceased.

All eastbound lanes in the area were shut down during the emergency response and initial investigation, which remains underway.

Shortly before 7:30 a.m., more than seven hours after the initial report, all travel lanes were reopened to traffic.
