CHAVES COUNTY, NM — A 21-year-old woman died early Monday after being struck by a vehicle in south Roswell, according to KRQE.
The Roswell Police Department said the incident occurred in the area of South Main Street and Burkett Road. Officers responded to the scene at about 1:20 a.m.
An investigation into the circumstances of the event remains underway, but authorities said the young woman was found deceased on the roadway.
Witnesses said they observed an orange sports car with black stripes, possibly a Chevrolet Camaro, fleeing the scene following a pedestrian crash. The vehicle is believed to have sustained damage to its front-end, including its windshield and hood, and possibly its roof.
