Woman charged with DWI in Vado wreck that killed 2 children

VADO, NM – A woman is facing criminal charges following a deadly car accident earlier this month in Vado, reports KRQE.

New Mexico State Police said 33-year-old Christina Escobedo Arriaga of Mesilla Park was driving drunk in a 2007 Dodge Charger on Highway 478 when she collided with a pole and fence.

The woman’s 12-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old passenger were killed in the crash while another 15-year-old passenger was badly injured. Escobedo-Arriaga has now been formally charged with homicide by vehicle, great bodily harm with a vehicle, driving under the influence, and three counts of child abuse – two of which resulted in death.

Escobedo-Arriaga pled not guilty to all charges. She was released until her trial and was required by the court to wear an ankle monitor.

Crash shuts down Interstate 25 south of Truth or Consequences

TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, NM – A road advisory was issued to motorists Tuesday night following an accident along Interstate 25.

A post on NMRoads at 7:17 p.m. stated that the crash took place on I-25 southbound at mile marker 68, ten miles south of Truth or Consequences. The interstate was closed in the area while emergency crews were responding.

There was no immediate word on whether anyone had been injured.

Lanes closed at South Valley intersection due to accident

SOUTH VALLEY, NM – The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an accident in South Valley on Wednesday morning.

In a traffic alert posted at 9:50 a.m., the BCSO said the incident took place in the area of Broadway Boulevard SE and Coso Avenue SE. One lane southbound and and one lane northbound was shut down due to heavy debris. Drivers were advised to use caution when traveling through the area.

An update was issued at 1:05 p.m. saying that all lanes had been reopened to traffic.
