ROSWELL, NM – A woman has been arrested and charged in connection with a pedestrian fatality in Roswell on April 15, 2024.
According to the Roswell Police Department, 25-year-old Nye Ray Vega of Roswell is charged with homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs, speeding, careless driving, and drivers to exercise due care.
The police investigation determined that 68-year-old Cody D. Williams was attempting to cross West Second Street on foot using a walker just before 8 p.m. when he was struck by a 2018 Dodge Durango driven by Vega west on West Second. Williams suffered fatal injuries. After the collision occurred, police said pulled the Durango into a store parking lot a few blocks from the accident scene and officers found her there.
Vega, who was not injured, was allegedly driving over 30 miles per hour over the speed limit at the time of the collision and was believed to have been using marijuana before the incident.
The data-recording device also showed there was no braking applied to the vehicle immediately prior to the collision, police said.
LOGAN, NM – An accident slowed traffic in a portion of Quay County during Wednesday morning’s commute.
According to an alert from NMRoads at 7:46 a.m., the crash caused both eastbound and westbound closures on U.S. 54 at mile marker 327 in Logan.
Drivers were advised to use extreme caution, reduce speed, obey posted signs, and watch for emergency personnel and equipment. Delays were expected.
There was no alternate route available, the New Mexico Department of Transportation said.
CLOVIS, NM – A motorcycle and a commercial motor vehicle were involved in a deadly collision in Curry County, the Eastern New Mexico News reports.
New Mexico State Police released details of the Feb. 27 wreck, which occurred in the area of New Mexico 245 and Curry Road M.
NMSP said the driver of the CMV was going south on Curry Road M, came to a stop and proceeded to cross NM 245. At that point, a westbound motorcycle collided with the trailer of the truck.
The motorcyclist, identified as 20-year-old Cayden Digsby of Clovis, died at the scene. The truck driver was not injured.
