Victim identified in fatal pedestrian collision in Santa Fe

SANTA FE, NM – Police said the victim of a fatal pedestrian crash in Santa Fe last month has been identified.

According to a release from the Santa Fe Police Department, the Office of the Medical Investigator said the man killed in the April 19 incident was 41-year-old Marcial Romero of Santa Fe.

He was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Agua Fria Street and Cottonwood Drive shortly before 2:05 a.m.

When police officers and paramedics arrived, they located the driver of the vehicle and Romero, who was seriously injured. He was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 23-year-old Ana Reyes of Santa Fe, was not injured and stayed at the scene. Police said she was observed by officers to have signs of impairment and was suspected of driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor and drugs.

After a DUI investigation, Reyes was arrested and charged with Homicide by Vehicle (Driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or any drug).

The case remains under investigation by the Santa Fe Police Department.

Southbound Interstate 25 closed due to rollover crash

BERNANILLO COUNTY, NM – A portion of Interstate 25 was shut down in Bernalillo County Sunday afternoon due to a rollover crash.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office reported in an alert at 3:39 p.m. that the accident resulted in the closure of southbound I-25 near Broadway Boulevard.

Drivers were advised to expect traffic delays in the area or seek alternate routes.

Motorcyclist dies after crashing into fence in Chaves County

CHAVES COUNTY, NM – A motorcyclist was killed in an accident in Chaves County last week, according to the Chaves County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to the 3600 block of Lovers Lane on April 30 at about 5:35 p.m. They found the motorcyclist dead at the scene. He was identified as 24-year-old Robert Joseph Boyles of Roswell.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Boyles was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a pipe fence.
