LUNA COUNTY, NM — Authorities were called to a vehicle fire Tuesday afternoon that blocked a section of Interstate 10 near west Deming, according to the New Mexico Department of Transportation.
The incident occurred on the westbound lanes of I-10 at milepost 68, near Gage. It was first reported by NMDOT at 3:25 p.m.
It was unclear whether a crash or mechanical issues led up to the blaze, but all westbound traffic was forced to detour at New Mexico State Road 418 due to a closure. Motorists were urged to slow down and use extra caution in the area. Delays were expected.
Westbound I-10 remained blocked between mileposts 68 and 62 as crews worked the scene.
