ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Bernalillo County deputies are searching for the driver and other possible suspects who fled the scene of a fatal pedestrian crash late last month in south Albuquerque, reports KOB4.
The incident unfolded on a stretch of Interstate 25 near mile marker 218, between the exits to Broadway and Isleta. Deputies responded to the scene on Tuesday, September 26, at about 10:30 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates that two vehicles were initially involved in a wreck that involved a pedestrian. Officials soon learned that a third vehicle struck the pedestrian and continued traveling northbound on I-25 without stopping.
The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office said the fleeing vehicle may be a U-Haul truck, a food truck-style box truck, or even a van. The vehicle was observed to be spray-painted in a white color and its cargo area appeared to have a side-access door.
At this time, officials have not confirmed any license plate details, and it remains unclear how many people were traveling in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
