CIBOLA COUNTY, NM — A 55-year-old man from Illinois died Tuesday afternoon after a commercial motor vehicle overturned near east Grants, leaving another man injured, according to the New Mexico Department of Public Safety.

The fatal wreck occurred on the eastbound highway at mile marker 90, east of Khe Sanh Bridge Scenic Marker.

An early investigation shows Abuali Salah, a resident of Palos Hills, Illinois, was driving a 2012 CMV eastbound. At one point, for reasons still being determined, the CMV veered off the roadway and rolled before coming to a rest on its side.

The Office of the Medical Investigator pronounced Salah deceased at the scene.

His passenger, a 35-year-old man, was transported by airlift to a local hospital, where their condition remains undisclosed.

New Mexico State Police continues to investigate the accident, but alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor.
