EDDY COUNTY, NM — Two people died late Tuesday after a two-vehicle accident on New Mexico State Road 529 near east Artesia, reports KOB4.
New Mexico State Police said the wreck occurred on a stretch of NM-529 west of Maljamar at about 11:30 p.m.
An early investigation indicates a driver in a 2020 Dodge Caravan was heading westbound when, for reasons still being investigated, they crossed the center line. Shortly after, the Dodge struck an eastbound commercial vehicle head-on.
Both the van driver and the driver of the commercial vehicle, a 42-year-old Hobbs resident, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
An 18-year-old man who was traveling as a passenger in the commercial vehicle had to be airlifted to a local hospital. No details on his condition have been disclosed.
An investigation by the state police was in progress.
