Truck driver facing charges for fatal crash on I-40 near Tucumcari

TUCUMCARI, NM – A truck driver is facing charges in connection with a fatal crash that occurred last year near Tucumcari, The Eastern New Mexico News reports.

Quay County authorities issued an arrest warrant for the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Gurwinder Singh of Richmond, New York.

The accident, involving two commercial vehicles, happened Oct. 5, 2024 at milepost 323 of westbound Interstate 40. According to New Mexico State Police, Singh told an NMSP officer he was driving his Freightliner truck westbound and did not notice the brake lights of another truck in front of him in enough time to avoid a collision. State Police said data indicated that Singh was using his cellphone at the time he was driving.

A passenger in Gurwinder Singh’s truck, 20-year-old Dharamveer Singh, fell out of the cab during the collision and died at the scene.

Gurwinder Singh faces numerous charges, including felony counts of homicide by vehicle and criminal damage to property, He will have an initial court appearance Nov. 18.

BCSO responds to accident in northwest Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office issued a traffic alert on Thursday night due to a crash in northwest Albuquerque.

The advisory at 8:09 p.m. stated that the accident happened in the area of Los Ranchos Road Northwest and 2nd Street Northwest.

Traffic on northbound 2nd Street was reduced to one lane at Los Ranchos as the scene was being cleared. Drivers were advised to use caution when traveling through the area

Crash causes delays on I-25 northbound at Gibson Boulevard

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – According to NMRoads, an accident was affecting traffic along a portion of Interstate 25 in Albuquerque on Friday morning.

The crash, reported at 10:52 a.m., took place on I-25 northbound at mile marker 223.

The right lane of the interstate was closed at Gibson Boulevard. Motorists were cautioned to expect traffic delays until the wreck could be removed.
