Teen driver dies after high speed crash at I-25 overpass in SW Santa Fe

SANTA FE, NM — A 17-year-old boy died Tuesday afternoon following a single-vehicle crash at an Interstate 25 overpass in southwest Santa Fe, according to KRQE.

Santa Fe Police said the fatal wreck occurred on a span of southbound lane of St. Francis Drive that runs under I-25. Officers were dispatched to the scene at about 12:43 p.m.

While an investigation remains in progress, the teen appeared to have been driving at a high rate of speed when his vehicle veered off the roadway and hit a support pillar under the overpass.

Authorities indicated that the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No other occupants and no other vehicles appear to have been involved.
