VADO, NM – According to KOAT, the woman behind the wheel of a deadly crash that killed two juveniles and injured a third near the 8100 block of New Mexico 48 on Sunday was released from jail on Tuesday.
Christina Escobedo-Arriaga, 33, was driving a purple 2007 Dodge Charger when she crashed into a chain-link fence, a tree, and an electric pole before coming to rest in front of a residence around 6:49 p.m.
First responders pronounced a 12-year-old child and a 15-year-old child dead at the scene. They hospitalized Escobedo-Arriaga and another juvenile passenger. The surviving juvenile was the only one wearing a seatbelt.
Investigators found an open 40-ounce bottle of beer inside the Charger at the scene of the wreck.
Authorities charged Escobedo-Arriaga with two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of intentional abuse of a child resulting in death. They have also charged her with one count of great bodily harm by vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, and another related child abuse charge.
Escobedo-Arriaga was released on her own recognizance in court on Tuesday.
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Four people were hurt in a multi-vehicle collision at Interstate 40 and Tramway Boulevard Northeast on Tuesday, according to ABQ RAW.
The wreck occurred around 5:20 p.m.
First responders transported one person to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Three others were also hurt. The extent of their injuries is unknown.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area while authorities investigated the incident.
BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM – According to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a crash at Coors Boulevard Southwest & Pajarito Road Southwest on Monday.
Dispatchers received calls concerning the incident around 12:29 p.m.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
