SFCSO called to suspected DWI crash on US-84 near north Santa Fe

SANTA FE COUNTY, NM — A 24-year-old woman was taken into custody for suspected DWI last Wednesday, September 27, after a crash near north Santa Fe, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.

The wreck was reported on the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 84/New Mexico State Road 284 near mile marker 169, just north of Avenida Monte Sereno.

Officials have not disclosed the events leading up to the accident, but the responding deputy observed the odor from an open alcoholic beverage. The female driver, identified as Santa Fe resident Nessa Belin, also displayed signs of intoxication.

A series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered to Belin but had to be terminated because the suspect was unable to maintain her balance. She was arrested and then booked into Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility.

No serious injuries were reported in the incident.
