Search underway for driver who left scene of fatal crash near Clovis

CLOVIS, NM – Authorities are investigating a multi-vehicle crash south of Clovis on Tuesday morning that left one of the drivers dead.

A press release from the Curry County Sheriff’s Office states that deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Curry Road 4 and U.S. Highway 70 after the incident was reported shortly after 6 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicated that 24-year-old Rogelio Velasquez III of Bovina, Texas was driving a Hyundai eastbound on Curry Road 4 and entered the intersection with U.S. Highway 70. Velasquez’s vehicle pulled in front of a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling south on US Highway 70 and the vehicles collided. Velazquez was ejected from his car, and evidence indicates he was then struck by a passing vehicle that left the scene of the accident.

A fourth vehicle then struck the Hyundai after the driver tried to avoid the wreck. Velasquez was pronounced dead after being taken to Plains Regional Medical Center. The sheriff’s office is trying to identify and locate the vehicle that left the scene.

New Mexico State Police assisted with the investigation.

Crash blocks U.S. 70 in both directions in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES, NM – The New Mexico Department of Transportation alerted drivers to a crash affecting traffic in the Las Cruces area on Friday morning.

According to an advisory on NMRoads at 11:01 a.m., the accident happened on U.S. 70.

The highway was blocked in both directions from mile marker 155 in Las Cruces to mile marker 156 in Hacienda Acres while emergency crews responded to the scene.

Traffic disrupted on I-10 east of Lordsburg due to accident

LORDSBURG, NM – Drivers encountered traffic disruptions along a stretch of Interstate 10 in Hidalgo County due to an accident on Friday afternoon.

A notification on NMRoads at 12:32 p.m. stated that both lanes were closed on I-10 eastbound from mile marker 45, 20 miles east of Lordsburg to mile marker 46, 21 miles east of Lordsburg.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.
