SANTA FE, NM — Two men employed at a southwest Santa Fe gas station have been charged for multiple crimes that involved using a vehicle Monday, December 18, to chain and drag a homeless man, reports KOAT.
The incident was reported at 2829 Agua Fria Street, the address for the Speedway gas station. Santa Fe Police were dispatched to the scene in the evening hours.
One man, 22-year-old Jonathan Gomez, told officials that a man experiencing homelessness was sleeping near the business and that he was having trouble getting the man to leave. He then called assistant manager Adrian Montoya, 31, who was off the clock, to the store for assistance. While they were able to wake the man, he did not comply with the request to leave.
Montoya, who was found to display signs of intoxicated driving, is accused of connecting a chain to the victim using his car to drag him an unspecified distance. Following his arrest, he was booked into Santa Fe Adult Detention Center and was charged with “Aggravated battery, kidnapping, tampering with evidence, aggravated driving while under the influence, and two conspiracy charges to commit kidnapping and aggravated battery.”
Gomez was also arrested for his role and transported to the Santa Fe Police Department. He has been charged with “kidnapping, aggravated battery and two conspiracy charges.”
