RRPD called to crash involving motor scooter near Rio Rancho shopping center

SANDOVAL COUNTY, NM — A serious collision involving a motor scooter was reported Thursday morning on New Mexico State Road 528 in Rio Rancho, reports KRQE.

The accident happened on the northbound lanes near Leon Grande Avenue Southeast, across the highway from Target and Albertsons Market in Rio Rancho Marketplace. It was first reported just after 10:00 a.m.

Details are limited, but the Rio Rancho Police Department indicated a red motor scooter was involved. The condition of the rider was not immediately disclosed, and it was unclear whether or not another vehicle was involved.

Authorities had the northbound highway shut down for over an hour during the response and initial investigation.

By 11:30 a.m., crews had cleared out of the area and all lanes were restored to traffic.
