Police investigating fatal pedestrian crash in SE Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred in southeast Albuquerque early Saturday morning, KRQE reported.

The incident happened near the intersection of Pennsylvania Boulevard and Central Avenue at about 12:40 a.m.  According to a preliminary investigation, a male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle heading south on Pennsylvania.  The victim was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.

Police said the driver reported they were trying to avoid what appeared to be clothing in the road, and then felt an impact.  The driver stopped after the collision and called 911.

Accident causes lane closure on U.S. 550 in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, NM – A crash disrupted traffic for drivers in a portion of Eddy County during Friday morning’s commute.

According to an alert on NMRoads at 7:20 a.m., the accident happened on U.S. 550 northbound at mile marker 173 in Riverside.

The right lane of the highway was closed while emergency services crews responded to clear the wreck.

Vehicle crashes into residence on Lara Drive in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Crews were dispatched to a vehicle collision in northeast Albuquerque early Thursday morning.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue reported that Engine 16 arrived in the 4000 block of Lara Drive shortly before 3 a.m.  They found that an electric vehicle had crashed into a resident, with smoke coming from the vehicle’s battery pack in the garage.

“Crews coordinated with the tow truck operator to lift the vehicle, allowing firefighters to cool the battery pack from underneath to help prevent thermal runaway, a chemical chain reaction within lithium-ion batteries that can be extremely difficult to stop once fully established,” the rescue squad stated.

The driver of the vehicle was evaluated at the scene.  No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Albuquerque Police Department.
