ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Albuquerque Police Department Chief Harold Medina was reprimanded for a crash that severely injured another driver near Central Ave SE and Alvarado Dr NE on February 17, according to KRQE.
Chief Medina was driving an unmarked APD black truck with his wife in the car when he heard a gunshot and sped off through an intersection against a red light, where he slammed into a gold 1966 Ford Mustang on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
Rescue crews extricated the Mustang driver, Todd Perchert, and transported him to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The New Mexico Department of Justice decided they would not seek prosecution for the crash.
APD found that Medina failed to operate his vehicle safely while on duty and failed to fully activate his on-body recording device after the crash. Medina accepted and signed two letters of reprimand.
