Pedestrian struck by Rail Runner train near downtown Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by a train near downtown Albuquerque Monday afternoon, the Albuquerque Journal reported.

The collision, which occurred shortly before 1 p.m., involved a northbound New Mexico Rail Runner Express commuter train.

Officials said the pedestrian walked into the path of the train just south of Menaul Boulevard after it had departed the downtown Albuquerque station.

The victim was taken to an area hospital but there was no immediate word on the person’s condition.

A spokesperson for the Rio Metro Regional Transit District said the engineer saw the person and put the train into emergency but could not avoid the collision in time

The train, carrying about 20 passengers, was delayed nearly an hour arriving in Santa Fe.

Crash blocks New Mexico 528 in both directions in Rio Rancho

RIO RANCHO, NM – Police said a crash was disrupting traffic in a section of Rio Rancho on Monday morning.

According to a Facebook post about 10:30 a.m., the accident shut down New Mexico 52 in both directions between Sara Road and Barbara Loop. Drivers were advised to avoid the area and find an alternate route.

The roadway was reopened later in the morning.

Accident with injuries reported in Chaves County

CHAVES COUNTY, NM – Authorities were called to the scene of a two-vehicle accident in Chaves County last week.

The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident happened Jan. 27 on U.S. Highway 380 east at mile marker 193.

The sheriff’s office stated that one of the vehicles drifted into the other vehicle’s lane of travel. The other driver tried to avoid the collision but the two vehicles sideswiped each other and both ended up off the south side of the highway.

All occupants of the two vehicles were transported to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries.
