ALBUQUERQUE, NM — A woman died early Sunday after being hit and dragged by a vehicle on Pike Street Northeast in east Albuquerque, reports KOB4.

Albuquerque Police responded to the scene at the intersection with Coconino Road Southeast, in the Mirabella neighborhood. The incident was first reported at around 3:30 a.m.

According to authorities, the woman was leaving a party at a nearby residence when she was struck by a red Mustang. Details remain limited, but she was dragged by the vehicle for about 400 feet before the driver fled the scene.

The victim was transported to UNM Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased, confirmed the APD.

Officers were later able to apprehend the suspect, who was then booked into Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Center.

Authorities have not detailed the charges against the driver, but alcohol has been determined to be a factor in the case.
