DOÑA ANA COUNTY, NM — One person died Sunday afternoon after being struck by a train at a railway crossing in southwest Las Cruces, reports KOAT.
The accident occurred in the area of Lohman Avenue and Amador Avenue, at around 2:00 p.m.
While the circumstances of the incident remain under investigation, the Las Cruces Police Department said the victim was hit by a northbound train.
Following the crash, the train was stopped, blocking the crossing from Amador Avenue to Avenida de Mesilla. Motorists were instructed to find alternate paths around the tracks until the accident scene is reopened.
At this time, no information on the victim has been made available.
No injuries to anyone aboard the train were reported.
