ALBUQUERQUE, NM — A man died Monday night after being struck by a vehicle in northeast Albuquerque’s Stardust Skies North neighborhood, reports KRQE.

The fatal incident took place at the corner of Montgomery Boulevard Northeast and Pennsylvania Street. Albuquerque Police were dispatched to the scene at about 8:30 p.m.

According to investigators, the man and his wife had been waiting at an area bus stop. At one point, the man, who is said to have been intoxicated, crossed Montgomery Boulevard outside of a marked crosswalk and into the path of a westbound Jeep, which hit him.

It was not immediately clear whether the victim died at the scene or at a hospital.

The driver of the Jeep told authorities she had not seen the male pedestrian until the point of contact, as the sun was setting affected visibility at the time.

Authorities said witness accounts matched the driver’s statement, and at this time, pedestrian error is believed to have been the cause of the crash. Speed and impairment are not suspected factors.
