ROSWELL, NM – Police are investigating a collision in northwest Roswell on Tuesday evening that left one person dead and five others injured.
The Roswell Police Department released information on the wreck that occurred in the area of Union Avenue and West 19th Street at about 6:35 p.m.
The initial investigation by the police department’s Traffic Division indicated that the driver of a Honda Accord apparently lost control while traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on North Union Avenue. The Accord struck a GMC Yukon SUV nearly head-on as the Yukon was traveling north on Union Avenue near the intersection with West 19th Street.
Four local teenagers were in the Accord. One of them, a 16-year-old girl, died after being taken to an area hospital. Two 17-year-old boys, one of whom was believed to be the driver, were hospitalized with severe injuries. The fourth teen, a 15-year-old girl, sustained injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
The driver of the Yukon, a 56-year-old Roswell woman, and her 11-year-old daughter who was a passenger, were treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
Police said charges are pending while the investigation continues.
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Deputies with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office were at the scene of a fatal crash involving a pedestrian.
In a traffic alert posted Saturday morning at 3:45 a.m., the BCSO said that the incident shut down northbound Coors Boulevard at Sage Road. Drivers were advised to use an alternate route during the investigation.
No details were released on the person killed, or the circumstances that led to the collision.
LEA COUNTY, NM – An accident disrupted traffic in a portion of Lea County on Friday morning, according to the New Mexico Department of Transportation.
An advisory on NMRoads at 8:10 a.m. stated that the incident occurred on New Mexico 483 at mile marker 9, Arkansas Junction Road, and caused closures northbound and southbound.
Motorists were urged to use caution, slow down, and watch for all emergency personnel and equipment in the area.
