SAN MIGUEL COUNTY, NM — A 21-year-old woman died Sunday afternoon after a rollover crash that hurt two others, including a child, on Interstate 25 near Serafina, according to KRQE.

The wreck occurred on a span of the northbound interstate north of Villanueva. New Mexico State Police were called to the scene shortly after 3:15 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a 21-year-old man was driving a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck with the 21-year-old woman in the front passenger seat and a three-year-old in the rear-passenger seat. At one point, the male driver veered off the roadway, causing the vehicle to overturn. Officials said both young adults were ejected in the crash, killing the young woman.

First responders rushed the young man and the toddler to a hospital in Las Vegas, New Mexico, with injuries considered non-life-threatening.

Alcohol is not believed to have contributed to the crash, but NMSP noted neither adult was properly secured by a seat belt at the time. An investigation remains ongoing.
