Officials ID victim of fatal bicycle crash in Santa Fe

SANTA FE, NM – According to The Santa Fe New Mexican, officials have released the name of the bicyclist who was killed in an accident at Cerrillos Road and St. Michael’s Drive Wednesday night.

Steven Ballinger, 42, was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a driver around 8:20 p.m.

First responders transported Ballinger to an area hospital, where he died.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

Following the collision, crews closed down the area to process the scene. It was reopened around 1 a.m.

The incident is under investigation by the Santa Fe Police Department’s traffic unit. They have not yet determined the cause of the crash or if the driver will be charged.

Judge sentences woman for DUI crash that injured several people in Shiprock

SHIPROCK, NM – A judge sentenced a woman for a DUI crash that hurt multiple people at US 491 and US 64 on April 10, 2023, according to KRQE.

Jazmyne Deschinny, 22, ran a red light at US 491 and US 64 and hit a tow truck hauling a flatbed trailer. Authorities say there were five children and three adults in Deschinny’s vehicle. First responders transported an unknown number of people to local hospitals. Some of those had serious injuries. One child had a head injury that required emergency surgery.

Most of the children were not adequately restrained in the vehicle.

At the hospital, a blood test revealed Deschinny’s BAC to be .264. She also tested positive for opiates and cannabis.

Deschinny pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury. She was sentenced to 33 months in prison. She will have two years of supervised release following her release from prison.

Auto accident reported near Sundts Industrial Area

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – According to NMRoads, a crash was reported on Interstate 25 near mile marker 227 Friday morning.

The incident occurred around 7:26 a.m.

It is unclear if anyone was hurt in the collision.
