VALENCIA COUNTY, NM — A single-car rollover wreck last Tuesday, October 31, near Los Lunas claimed the life of a 20-year-old San Rafael resident, according to New Mexico State Police.
Officials said the crash happened on New Mexico State Road 6 near mile marker 3, about a mile east of NM-169/Sparrow Hawk Road. It was first reported at around 5:30 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found that a 2004 Toyota passenger vehicle was traveling westbound when it veered off the roadway and overturned.
The Office of the Medical Investigator pronounced the victim, William Archuleta, deceased at the scene.
It remains unclear at this time what caused the Toyota to leave the roadway. While investigators have ruled out alcohol as a contributing factor, seatbelts were found to have been not properly used at the time of the accident.
An investigation by the NMSP remains open and ongoing.
