MCKINLEY COUNTY, NM — At least one person died Tuesday morning following a collision on Interstate 40 near Prewitt, according to KRQE.

The fatal accident took place on the eastbound lanes at Exit 63 to New Mexico State Road 412, or Pillowcrest Road.

It remains unclear what caused the wreck or how many vehicles were involved, but New Mexico State Police were at the scene conducting an investigation.

Motorists were told to expect delays in the area, as only the right lane was left open for passing traffic. Eastbound motorists were being re-routed onto New Mexico State Road 122 at Exit 53.
