TAOS COUNTY, NM – Sheriff’s deputies and emergency crews were at the scene of a deadly accident in Taos County Tuesday afternoon, according to the Taos News.

The incident took place on U.S. 64 near the Taos Mesa Brewing Mothership on the road leading to the Río Grande Gorge Bridge. The Taos County Sheriff’s Office said the driver of a Volvo station wagon was heading west on U.S. 64 and had stopped to turn left when the vehicle was struck from behind by a Ford Expedition.   The sheriff’s office said a woman died in the crash, but no further details were provided on the victim’s identity.

Speed was being investigated as a major contributing factor in the collision, the county sheriff said. The highway was closed in both directions while the scene was being cleared and investigated.
