ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The Albuquerque Police Department has released an update on a fatal collision that occurred last Thursday on the city’s West Side.

The crash happened at the intersection of Universe Boulevard and Paseo Del Norte NW shortly after noon.
Police determined that an Uber driver was behind the wheel of a BMW SUV going west on Paseo Del Norte. When the driver made a left to go south on Universe Boulevard, the SUV was hit on the passenger side by an eastbound Jeep.
A passenger in the right rear seat of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The Uber driver was transported to University of New Mexico Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, while the driver of the Jeep refused transport.
Police say it is possible that speed may have been a factor in the crash, but it remained unclear whether charges would be filed as the investigation continues.
