News: Tire blowout causes deadly crash in Quay County

QUAY COUNTY, NM – Emergency responders were called to the scene of a crash that killed four and injured several others last Friday, News Channel 10 reports.

A 2002 Mercury Mountaineer SUV carrying 10 passengers was driving on I-40 eastbound when its tire went flat. The vehicle swerved and crashed into a barrier, then flipped over.

The accident took place at about 4:55 p.m. Friday, near Tucumcari.

Two of the passengers were killed at the scene of the accident, while one was pronounced dead en route to a nearby hospital. Four other passengers were injured after the wreck.

The extent of the injuries is currently unknown. We will be following this story as the New Mexico State Police investigate.
