BLOOMFIELD, NM – New Mexico State Police report they are investigating a fatal crash between two pickup trucks that occurred west of Bloomfield Saturday evening.
Troopers responded to the scene on US Highway 64 near County Road 5322 at about 6:14 p.m.
Investigators said 81-year-old James Cummins of Farmington was driving a Ford F250 south across US Highway 64 when the vehicle was struck by another Ford F250 going westbound. Cummins was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle was hospitalized but was expected to survive.
At this time, authorities say driver inattention appears to have been a contributing factor in the accident, which remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
