WINSTON, NM – New Mexico State Police are investigating a deadly rollover crash on State Road 59 in Sierra County that occurred Saturday afternoon.
In a press release, state police said 57-year-old James D. Lara was driving a Ford F-250 pickup west near Winston at about 4:25 p.m. when the vehicle went off the roadway and rolled over.
Lara, a Las Cruces resident, was thrown from the pickup and was pronounced dead at the scene. He did not appear to have been wearing a seat belt at the time.
Investigators said alcohol appears to have been a contributing factor in the wreck.
