FARMINGTON, NM – Police responded to a crash in Farmington that left a pedestrian critically injured, the Farmington Daily Times reports.

The incident took place Sept. 29 near the 4500 block of Wildflower Parkway shortly before 7:30 p.m. Police said Lorenzo Smith was kneeling in the roadway with a bicycle when he was hit by a westbound sedan.

Smith was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.  The crash is under investigation by the police traffic reconstruction team.

Weather was believed to have been a factor in the incident. Investigators added that Smith was wearing all black clothing when he was struck.

Wildflower Parkway was shut down to traffic between Wildflower Mesa Drive and Goldenrod before reopening near four hours later.
