GUADALUPE COUNTY, NM – A passenger was killed in a large chain collision involving thirteen vehicles yesterday, KRQE reports.
A man was driving eastbound on I-40 when his semi-truck rear-ended another commercial truck. Shortly after the wreck, eleven more commercial vehicles and three cars collided in the eastbound lanes.
New Mexico State Police were on the scene of the wreck at about 9:38 a.m. yesterday.
One person inside of a van was killed at the site of the crash, according to the Office of the Medical Examiner. Several other passengers from the van were transported to a local trauma center for treatment. The severity of their injuries is unknown at this time.
Officers suspect that the road conditions due to weather was a factor in the accident.
