ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The Albuquerque Police Department reported that a motorcyclist was critically injured in a collision with a car Sunday evening.
Police were called to the scene in the area of San Mateo Boulevard NE and Lumber Avenue NE after the incident was reported at about 7 p.m. Investigators determined that the driver of a Mercedes four-door sedan pulled out of the exit of a parking lot and went in front of a motorcyclist going west on Lumber Avenue. The motorcyclist crashed into the Mercedes and was ejected from the bike. He was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital and was listed in critical condition.
The driver and passenger of the Mercedes were not hurt in the crash and stayed at the scene. Police said a semi-truck parked on Lumber Avenue may have diminished the field of view for both the driver of the car and the motorcycle rider.
Investigators also believe speed on the part of the motorcyclist may have been a contributing factor in the accident.
