CAPTAIN, NM – New Mexico State Police said one person was killed and another injured in a motorcycle crash on Saturday evening.

KTSM reports the incident took place on State Road 37 south of Capitan shortly before 6:30 p.m.  An investigation indicated that the driver of a Harley Davidson motorcycle was headed east and tried to avoid hitting another motorcycle in the same lane.

The driver of the Harley lost control of the bike and was ejected along with the passenger.

The passenger, identified as 52-year-old Rosalva Valenciana of El Paso, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Police said she was not wearing a helmet at the time.  The driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Alcohol did not appear to have been a factor in the accident, police said.
